One Wordless Wednesday: A Reflection to Ease Your Week

Each week, I choose one word that captures something I’ve been learning, feeling, or noticing in my everyday life as a mom.

These One Wordless Wednesday reflections are my way of slowing down- giving thoughts room to stretch and breathe- especially in a season when love is everywhere but often defined very narrowly.

Wordless Wednesday

This week’s word is:

Cherish

Webster’s defines cherish as:

“to hold dear; to feel or show affection for.”

Valentine’s Day tends to spotlight grand gestures.

Flowers.

Cards.

Reservations.

Expectation.

But as a mom, I’ve noticed something quieter.

Cherish rarely shows up in big moments.

It shows up in small, ordinary ones.

It’s the way your child leans into you without thinking.

The inside joke at the dinner table.

The crayon heart taped slightly crooked to the fridge.

The way your home sounds in the evening when everyone is finally settling.

Cherish isn’t loud.

It doesn’t demand perfection.

It doesn’t require elaborate plans.

It doesn’t wait for everything to be tidy.

It exists right in the middle of real life.

Sometimes we miss it because we’re busy managing.

Managing schedules.

Managing behavior.

Managing meals and laundry and the endless invisible details.

But cherishing asks us to pause long enough to notice.

Not to fix.

Not to improve.

Not to optimize.

Just to hold something gently for a moment.

You can cherish your child’s laughter.

You can cherish your own effort.

You can cherish the way your family works together- even imperfectly.

And here’s the part we forget:

You are allowed to be cherished too.

Not just for what you do.

Not just for what you manage.

Not just for what you carry.

But for who you are inside this home.

This Valentine’s week, I’m not chasing elaborate celebrations.

I’m looking for small things worth holding close.

The ordinary moments.

The quiet gratitude.

The softness tucked into a regular Wednesday.

Cherish doesn’t require a holiday.

It’s already here.

If this word resonates with you, take a moment today to notice one thing you’re already holding dear- without trying to improve it.

Sometimes that noticing is enough.
