One Word(less) Wednesdays: An Unscripted Writing Prompt #2

One Word. Five-ish Minutes

The Webster’s definition of the word QUIET is:

“the absence of noise or bustle; calm.”

As moms, how often do we crave quiet?

Sometimes it feels like a rare gem tucked into the folds of bedtime routines or early mornings before the house wakes up.

But quiet isn’t just about silence- it’s about creating space for ourselves and our families to breathe.

In the chaos of motherhood– laundry piles, meal prep, sibling squabbles, schoolwork, endless questions- the power of quiet can feel almost impossible.

Yet it’s in those still moments that we reset.

Quiet is not the absence of sound, but the presence of peace- the space where love, patience, and strength have room to grow.”

QUIET lets us hear our own thoughts again, remember who we are outside of “Mom,” and gather strength for what’s ahead.

Being Quiet also doesn’t have to mean total silence.

The hush of a child snuggled against you while flipping through a book.

It can be the steady rhythm of a simmering pot on the stove.

Or that deep sigh you take after finishing the last chore of the day.

Quiet is less about muting life and more about finding calm in the middle of it.

As moms, we also give our children the gift of quiet.

When we respond with calm instead of chaos, when we pause before reacting, when we create peaceful rhythms at home, we teach them that life doesn’t always have to be loud to be full.

Quiet moments become anchors in their memory, reminding them of safety, comfort, and presence.

The beauty of quiet is that it doesn’t demand anything grand.

It shows up in the small pauses, the gentle breaths, the mindful choices.

And in a world that seems to celebrate noise and hustle, maybe choosing quiet is one of the most radical, powerful things we can do.

That’s the kind of QUIET worth leaning into-

  • Restorative
  • Grounding
  • deeply life-giving

Quiet is a gift that often goes unnoticed in the whirlwind of motherhood.

In the middle of loud schedules, endless tasks, and the daily messes that come with family life, those rare moments of stillness remind us of who we are and what really matters.

Quiet doesn’t just restore our energy- it restores our perspective, letting us slow down enough to see the beauty hidden in the ordinary.

As moms, when we make room for quiet, we offer our families more than just peace; we give them presence.

Our children learn that calm is possible, even in a noisy world, and that love can be steady and gentle.

Quiet moments become anchors- reminders that strength isn’t always about volume, but about the steady heartbeat of a home where peace is nurtured.

  1. I love this! So beautifully stated. I’m glad you mentioned that quiet not only restores energy but also perspective. That’s so true! It’s one of the reasons I love my digital scrapbooking habit–I get to spend quiet me-time focusing on happy life moments in photos while putting words to them. There really is a lot of power in quiet. Visiting from Talking About it Tuesday. And I’d love to have you share this post on my blog linkup as well, if you’re interested: https://lifetalesbooks.blogspot.com/p/calling-fellow-bloggers.html

  2. Well laid out and said. Quiet to me: Make or become silent, calm, or still and rejuvenate and restore energy.
Thank you for linking to SSPS 380 See you again Monday

  3. Oh I love quiet. I intentionally have quite time everyday. There’s something refreshing and resetting about it for me. This is a great message.

Thanks so much for sharing with Sweet Tea & Friends this month dear friend. I’m so happy you’re here.
